Student Activities

Joan of Arc Academy offers an assortment of activities to enrich the students’ school experience.

Sports

Students have a wide variety of athletic opportunities at the Academy. Throughout the year they participate in cross country running, volleyball, soccer, rugby, badminton, ski trips, skating on our rink made by parent volunteers, and more. The students at Joan of Arc participate in the Ottawa Private Schools’ Sports Leagues.

Clubs and Contests

Joan of Arc girls have endless opportunities to discover new interests and talents through our vibrant clubs and activities.

In Fall 2025, our Eco Club proudly built a new greenhouse and garden area, expanding on the original school garden created in 2014 by science classes and the Environment Club. Students use these spaces year-round for hands-on science and outdoor learning.

Our elementary choir, led by Mme Sophie, has earned national recognition at the Kiwanis Music Festival and performs at concerts and community events—including Ottawa 67s games and Remembrance Day on Parliament Hill.

Musically inclined students can also join our Senior Band, with members frequently selected for the Eastern Ontario Honour Band and well prepared to enter high-school arts programs such as Canterbury’s.

Beyond music, girls engage in a variety of enriching clubs and activities—chess, math and science clubs, used-book exchanges, university and college mini-enrichment courses, and national math contests—that spark curiosity, creativity, and leadership.

Art

Joan of Arc students can take part in art, drama, dance and musical activities that include the school choir and band. Each year the girls present several plays and participate in performances such as the Holiday Concert and the Joan of Arc Talent Show. Girls may also sign up for piano lessons or for after-school violin lessons with Ottawa Suzuki Strings.

Outings

Our class field trips give students the opportunity to experience the beauty of Ottawa. We also bring specialists, like scientists and industry experts, into the Academy to enrich their day-to-day learning experience.

School Spirit

We have a wide assortment of fun and educational activities such as non-uniform days, Semaine de la Francophonie celebrations, workshops and presentations by guest speakers on subjects such as pottery, nutrition, yoga and The Power of Anti-Bullying.
