The Canadian Achievement Test (CAT) has become one of the most widely used achievement tests in Canada. The CAT-4, or fourth edition, is a comprehensive, curriculum based test, covering all strands of math, as well as English comprehension, vocabulary, language conventions, grammar and spelling.
The results are expressed in a percentile rank, a ranking system that places the student on a national percentile scale 1-99. A percentile of 80 indicates that the student performs better than 80% of students tested nationally in this grade. This scale indicates precisely how one student is performing compared to other students at the same grade level throughout the country.
